Tom Baker - A career in television and films

Date of birth: 20 January 1934, Liverpool, England.
The best-known and arguably the most popular Doctor almost never became an actor.
Baker left school at the age of 15 to enter a monastery, but the monastic lifestyle
did not suit him, and he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps in his early 20s
before pursuing an acting career. His role as Koura in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad
attracted the attention of the producers of Doctor Who, at the time looking for
someone to take over the role from Jon Pertwee. And the rest, as they say, is history.
