The lowdown: 'Twisted Tales' is a British comedy-drama anthology series featuring single-episode stories of dark
humour. A total of 14 episodes were broadcast on BBC3 between 16 January and 19 April 2005. 'txt msg rcvd' was
the first episode of the series. It stars Marc Warren as Alex Wright, who specialises in training people work in call
centres and who is constantly using his mobile telephone. Alex is married to Janet, but is having an affair with a
coworker, Davina. Unfortunately he sends a text message to the wrong person, and his wife throws him out of their
home. However, Alex's problems are just beginning, because somebody is sending him death threats via SMS,
warning that he is going to die at a certain time the next day. That somebody also sends everybody in his office
pictures of a naked Davina that he took using his mobile, and he quickly loses his job. Then his wife dies in a car
accident. Alex is blamed for her death, because he apparently called her to say the faulty brakes on her car had
been fixed, but he never made the call. Somebody is clearly out to destroy him. Then he gets a phone call from a
mysterious voice (Paul McGann), who claims to be his mobile telephone, and is sick of Alex abusing his mobile
by using it to send lies and degrading photos. Alex meets an untimely end in a traffic accident, and the motorist
who killed him suddenly gets a mysterious text message... Although the viewer only hears Paul McGann's voice,
he is chillingly effective in his brief but memorable role. Future episodes feature a number of actors who are familiar
to 'Doctor Who' fans, including Mary Tamm, Paul Darrow, Annette Badlands and Mark Benton.
