The lowdown: 'Tripping Over' is a co-production between Australia's Ten Network and Britain's Channel Five. The six-part
drama series was first broadcast on Ten on 25 October 2006 and on Five on 30 October. It chronicles the experiences of
five young British and Australian travellers who are each going overseas for work and/or pleasure. They meet in Bangkok
in the first episode, and part ways after a life-changing explosion aboard a Thai tourist boat. The series explores their
personal journeys and experiences, as well as the consequences of the actions of the previous generation. 'Tripping Over'
was filmed in London, Bangkok, and Sydney, and stars Daniel McPherson as Ned, an Australian actor who is on his way
to London to further his acting career; Abe Forsythe as Nic, a maths teacher who gets a job in England; and Brooke
Satchwell as Nic's girlfriend Felicity (Flic), who he finds is cheating on him when he arrives in London.

Paul McGann plays Ned's father, Jeremy Frost, a human rights lawyer who is trying to adopt a child with his second wife,
Annebel (Lisa McCune), whilehaving a relationship with another woman. His world is shattered when he is diagnosed
with Young's Syndrome, a disease which is not a major health issue but has left him sterile since birth. He then faces
the difficult task of telling Ned the truth about his parentage. Ned's father, in fact, turns out to be Jeremy's own brother,
James. Jeremy confronts his ex-wife Lydia (Rebecca Gibney) after learning the truth, just before flying to London to
deliver a keynote address at a conference. Jeremy's story is neatly interwoven with the adventures and misadventures
of the younger generation.

The verdict: 'Tripping Over' is an entertaining drama series that boasts an excellent cast, good acting and fine scripts
that combine drama with wry humour and the odd touch of emotion. However, it is not the sort of show that will appeal
to all viewers, and the multiple plotlines and large cast of characters can make it difficult to follow. The fact that the first
episode features events in three different countries also makes it confusing for viewers who have not become totally
engrossed in the story. Nevertheless, it is worth watching, if only for the quality cast, and to support the Australian and
UK television industry.
