Jon Pertwee - A career in television and films

Date of birth: 7 July 1919, Chelsea, London, England, UK.
Date of death: 20 May 1996, Timber Lake, Connecticut.

          Jon Pertwee was born John Devon Roland Pertwee and changed the spelling of his first name early
          in his acting career. His father Roland was an actor, as was his cousin cousin Bill (best known as
          ARP Warden Hodges in Dad's Army.  In fact, Jon was considered for the role of Captain Mainwaring
          in this show). Jon's children, Dariel and Sean, both went into acting as well, while his brother Michael
          briefly flirted with acting before making a name for himself as a writer for films and television.
