The lowdown:  'The Sarah Jane Adventures' is a Doctor Who spin-off featuring Elisabeth Sladen defending the Earth
in much the same way that the Doctor himself has for the last four decades or so. Sarah is armed with a sonic lipstick
and a watch that can detect alien life forms, and assisted by a supercomputer named Mr Smith, a member of an alien
race called the Xylok, who is hidden in her attick, as well as her genetically-engineered son Luke and two local children
who soon learn that Sarah is more than just a journalist, and join her in fighting aliens and saving Earth from invasion.
The first series featured Sarah's 13-year neighbour, Maria Jackson, and 14-year-old Clyde Langer, but the character of
Maria was written out of the show at the start of the second series. She was replaced by Rani Chandra, a 15-year-old
whose parents buy the Jacksons' house, and aspires to be a journalist like Sarah Jane. The series debuted on BBC1
on 1 January 2007, with a one-hour special called 'Invasion of the Bane'. The first series began on 24 September 2007,
and a total of 35 episodes have been broadcast to date.

The episode:  'The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith' is the third story of the third season, and it was broadcast on 29-30
October 2009. Sarah Jane reveals to her young friends that she has been dating Peter Dalton (Nigel Havers), and brings
him home to meet Luke.  Sarah accepts Peter's marriage proposal, and he gives her a strange engagement ring which
glows when he puts it on her finger.  Clyde and Rani are suspicious of Peter, fearing that he may be an alien, although
K9 has scanned him to confirm that he is human.  They go to his house and find that it has not been lived in for some
time. The wedding day arrives, and the Doctor bursts into the room and tries to stop the wedding, but the Trickster (first
seen in a first-season story called 'Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane?') appears.  The Trickster, Sarah and the guests
vanish, leaving the Doctor alone with Luke, Clive and Rani. He soon discovers that the world outside the hotel no longer
exists, and they are trapped in one second of time, while Sarah is trapped in another second of time with Peter and the
Trickster. It is then revealed that Peter had died when he fell down the stairs in his home, but the Trickster had appeared
(with Peter thinking it was a angel) and offered him the chance to live again. However, it is part of the Trickster's scheme
to leave Earth open for invasion, as Sarah Jane would give up her alien-fighting lifestyle if she marries Peter. She realises
that in order for her friends to return to the real world, Peter must renege on his deal with the Trickster and die.  He does
so and noramlity is restored, and only Sarah Jane and her friends remember the Doctor and the Trickster.
