The
lowdown: 'The Graham Norton Show' is a BBC2 chat show, which
strangely enough is hosted by
Graham Norton, an Irish
actor, comedian and television presenter. It was first broadcast on 22
February
2007. It features the standard
elements of the classic talk show format, such as an opening monologue
by the host, interviews
with the weekly guests, and a performance by a guest band. However, it
differs
from typical talk shows
such as 'Parkinson' in that the humour tends to be much more adult in nature,
and each episode features
a segment with a hidden camera.
The episode broadcast on
29 March 2007 featured David Tennant and comedienne Jo Brand, and the
hidden camera segment featured
a replica Police Box set up on the south bank in London. It played
farting and toilet flushing
noises when Norton pressed a button (this was related to a discussion between
Tennant and Norton about
farting on the set of 'Doctor Who'). A passer-by named Alex was induced
to
enter the police box via
a ringing telephone, and was 'transported' to the BBC2 studio, where the
program
ended with him meeting Norton,
Tennant and Brand. The episode also featured a running joke about the
sexual prowess of David
Tennant's character in 'Casanova', and an advertisement that was placed
in the
lonely hearts section of
a magazine called 'Glory Hole'. The ad attracted one reply, from a 'half-Greek,
half-English' man called
Derek. Norton sent Derek an SMS with a 'sexy' photo of Tennant, who telephoned
Derek during the show.
