The
lowdown: 'Little Britain is a sketch comedy series starring
Matt Lucas and David Walliams, with Tom Baker as the
unseen narrator whose often
surreal comments are used to link the sketches. Three seasons and a number
of specials
have been made to date and
broadcast on BBC3. Each episode typically features a range of regular characters,
all played
by Lucas and Walliams. They
include the Welsh homosexual Daffyd, whose catchphrase is "I'm the only
gay in the village";
teenage chav Vicky Pollard;
and Emily Howard and Florence, two transvestitutes whose favourite line
is "I'm a lady!"
Colin Baker featured in one
of the deleted scenes from the third season, which is included on the season
DVD. In this
sketch, Emily and Florence
attend the Henley Regatta, where they meet two elderly gentlemen who seem
to be oblivious
to the fact that these "ladies"
are in fact men. Needless to say the punchline is tyical of the Little
Britain team - tasteless
but very funny. 'Little
Britain' is an acquired taste and probably not to some people's liking.
However, it is an entertaining
comedy series that at times
is extremely funny - and of course listening to Tom Baker is a definite
plus!
